Who would have thought the sound of rain would be so welcome?
I am blessed to live in a lovely leafy environment here In South Yorkshire. My mind throwing back to last Thursday, the very smell of freshly soaked foliage, with dew drops dropping from one glossy green platform to another, it really made the morning. The wildlife was a little extra wild! Like the drizzle on the lemon cake, it was wonderful to witness each creature’s zest for life after being deprived for so long of any rich pickings.
There had been heavy downpours the week before on the opening of the Ebor festival at York races, with the sunshine making a comeback for the weekend extravaganza. It was good to see creative ways of keeping the glamour during the rainy time. There were both clear and colour-coordinated umbrellas on display to combat the elements. So important to keep those hats, headpieces and fascinators protected with no fear of any drenching. What better way than to keep the fabulous headwear on display using the clear brolly option. So many did retreat to the indoor alternative, staying completely dry amongst the hustle and bustle.
With the St Leger festival knocking at the door and ready to celebrate two hundred and fifty years of the oldest race, many may also face another aged dilemma… of what to wear…
The shops boldly tell us it’s time to think of the Autumn fashions, with their rich moody berry tones, but there is that temptation to hold on to the sunny shades while ever we can.
The severe drought has forced trees to shed their leaves early, no gentle conditioning for our special silent guardians. I’m pleased to have my roots firmly planted, shaking a few leaves when the time feels right.
