The early summer combo of widespread wet washings along with the hot bake has now become the hottest of bakes, with no serious wet washing. It has left gilded crispy edges scattering the countryside and our gardens, as the sun continues to shine.
The harvest of honey shades creates windows with wide openings, like tissue paper cuttings with a worn fragile feel, echoing those fine antique laces when lifting the lid. Fabrics which by their very nature, capture such beauty,
The heat brought with it a slower pace of life, at times disturbingly stopping our flow, but strangely allowing a chance to be mindful. A chance to hang out with the glory of these restful tones, from sun-kissed golds to champagne bubbles, offering an aura quite like no other.
Whilst working on a bespoke fascinator for a bride’s mother who had chosen a delightful shade of gold, nature’s influences were all around me, along with the distinctive style of the skirt of the customer’s dress to be worn. This led to the outline for my design. We were both so pleased with the result, which added to the total look. Receiving the heartfelt thank you for helping to complete the outfit was immensely fulfilling.
It’s always great to give each individually designed piece of headwear, whether hat or headpiece its own striking stamp.
Weddings to hot destinations often come with requests of scaled down headpieces, whether it be for the practicalities of travelling or keeping it simple in the sunniest of settings.
Adding exquisite finishing touches, keeping a refined sense of style are key.
With festivals, Ebor, at York Races later this month and St Leger, at Doncaster, in September, it’s always exciting to see Yorkshire millinery on show. I love seeing such a variety of hat styles on parade, as well as the contrasts of vibrant coloured race hats and those that are monochrome.
Oh, and of course, without doubt I will for sure be looking out for a touch of gold!
