It’s an extra nod when November arrives, a time so heavily seeped in traditions, with extra special days and long, lengthy nights.
These significant November days are dates to remember but without the official holiday here in the UK – unless of course we decide to make our own.
It is also a chance for me to take a look at both childhood and adulthood memories and reminisce…
With All Saints Day falling on the first of the month, I’m recalling the glory of Church stained glass windows, their figures wearing shining halos, adding those extra rays of light. By contrast the Big Bang of Bonfire night four days later brought with it such noise. A flash back of writing my own curly message when given the much sort after sparkler, the disappointment on show when the words came to an end.
Remembrance Sunday still stays very significant, attire may change but thoughts remain sober. I’ve outgrown the Brownie Guide Beret and the Girl Guide navy hat. Now really is the time to wear my thinking cap.
International Men’s Day on the 19th of November also deserves a mention. A time to celebrate those positive role models and the many hats they bring.
When I became a Milliner I also became aware of St Catherine’s day on the 25th of November. Catherine being a patron saint of Milliners! Definitely the day to celebrate with a showcase or two!
October weather was extra kind, this theme carried on right through, I was also fortunate to receive news of being selected as a finalist for two awards at the Small Business Christmas Awards here in Barnsley. I was also humbled and delighted for my name to be put forward for two more awards in the Growth Community which covers Yorkshire,Humber, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
It’s time to reach for the warm cosy headwear, be it felt or knit, as we start to feel the early morning chill.
There is nothing quite like the sound of the trampling of the leaves as I head over the countryside. It’s a month of great change, and after all … me and my daughter were November babies!
