Life has a habit of running at such a fast pace, we can sometimes feel a little like we are thrown from one month to the other. It’s unusual for me to take a break in August, but this year I welcomed the change and was able to enjoy the late summer season and all its splendor.
.Mother nature allows everything to become a little bit slower during the summertime, longer days giving us that much needed catchup time. It’s a time of harmony, the softness of the floral shades painting a fine silky picture, along with the touchy feely textures of grasses and petals. Some have already started to fall adrift, but most are fortunate to receive the softest of landings.
With my recent bespoke hat orders, I’ve been working with amazing dupion silks which are wonderful to work with, especially for perched hats. Pill box hats are also a great favourite and can be worn tilted at a jaunty angle. However, vintage influences are forever encouraging the tendency to wear the Pill Box either straight on the head or tilted towards the back of the head.
As we enter the first week of September there is an obvious shift towards much shorter days along with cooler nights. Reaping the riches from an early harvest there is much to rejoice. Berry like colours begin to play their part in the latest fashion magazines with the high expectation of a cosy warm feel for Autumn attire.
The reality is that the special occasion hat is still very much on the scene in the month of September, with the wedding season and race season not quite ready to say goodbye.
Brimless headwear has been around for a long time, but so too can be said for the hat with a brim, particularly the hat for the bride’s mother or the bridegroom’s mother.
Hat choices of course are influenced by trends portraying a certain headwear look that the hat wearer desires. As for me, one of the most important points to consider for hat wearing is a person’s own, individual personality.
