Headwear – Hedgerow Inspired.

Apparently, March was named after Mars the God of War as it was the time when Roman soldiers set out to March. For me it’s the time of the advancement of longer days and the welcome signs that Spring is here, meteorologically speaking. A chance to say goodbye to the deep mud winter we have endured here in the UK and the hope of brighter days.

I will be celebrating International Women’s Day on the 8th of March two days early this year as I head for the Chamber of Commerce event at Aesseal New York Stadium at Rotherham. The theme will be “Give to Gain” with an emphasis on the power of reciprocity and support.

For more than a century International Women’s Day has been instrumental in bringing about many changes. Being part of a four-generation family, it’s good to acknowledge the terrific progress that has been made, the efforts for further advancements and the courage of previous grandmothers and role models who were there in the early days.

I love to select the Suffragette colours purple, white and green for this special day, remembering that green was to represent hope, the same name which was given to my Granddaughter.

Last year I used these three colours to design a headdress of flowers inspired by the hedgerows all around me, here in South Yorkshire. It felt very special having headwear which sent out a message with great meaning close to my own heart.

Going with hopeful, I’m opting for the greater part of my hat to be green this year, leaving my largely purple handmade silk corsage from earlier years back in the box.

In comparison, my latest bespoke orders have been a complete contrast colour wise, with subtle tones that blend harmoniously.

Each headpiece carefully designed and handcrafted reflecting both the personality of the wearer and the outfit they have chosen.

March being a great month to move forward, whether it be marching or little baby steps, there is a difference to be made.
